Nixon Coppins wins YZ85 Round at MXGP of Sweden – continuing a legacy set by his father – 2x Vice-MX World Champion, Josh Coppins. Taking pole in qualifying and edging his way into the lead in Lap 1 – the yet to be teenager – nailed his first victory – 20 years after his Dad won at the same track.

Much like his father, Nixon remained calm and calculated throughout the race, stating: ‘I got a good start and was really happy with that, and then I managed to reel off the laps. I haven’t had many wins this year, so it’s nice to finally get one! Dad won here 20 years ago, and he was telling me on the way here, so it’s nice to be able to do that too!”

For Josh, 2005 was an outstanding season taking his first double moto win at Round 10 Grand Prix of Sweden followed by back-to-back victory at the Grand Prix of South Africa. In an extract by Adam Wheeler at the time, Josh comments: ‘”I was really happy to win both motos today and that is the first time for me. I have been having problems with my first lap recently and not making enough of an impact from the gate. I was expecting a good result so am happy to have proved myself. I had four or five seconds over Joel (Smets). It was good to close the gap to Stefan (Everts) today. There is still a big gap but anything is possible. I have to keep pushing on and trying to beat Stefan every week'”. Josh finished the season as Vice-Champion with fellow kiwi – Ben Townley in third.
