Media Creation for 2024 - going beyond the status quo page 89 page 132_1

MXLink proved creation of content outside racing increases audience engagement in between World Championship Rounds. As statistics confirm, films produced and articles published on Kiara Fontanesi training for WMX near her home in Parma exceeded all expectations reaching 15K views, 15 shares, 450 likes, along with positive comments.

In direct contrast to covering rider’s at WMX Rounds, the ability to plan, set-up, and implement film interviews including shots on and off the track far outweighs gaining footage within the tight time-frame of rider’s able to answer questions in between racing at 6 WMX GP’s. Equally, the opportunity to record behind the scenes footage of the hard work and grind rider’s put in week-on-week highlights the reality of training and preparing to race Women’s Motocross World Championship from March through to the end of September.

So, what were the main points of focus to tell the story of Kiara training for WMX while simultaneously juggling the many responsibilities that occur in her daily life? Straight up was capturing the drive and determination that Kiara actions to realize her goals from wake-up in the morning to night fall. On arrival to the track, Kiara had already taken her two daughters to school, agreed to film interviews with MXLink, while slotting in time to help fellow WMX and 85cc rider’s at the track – and complete her own 10 minute motos 6x in 30 degrees plus heat.

Hovering in the background – filming conversations between Kiara and her mechanic, rider’s, and their families – provided insight on Kiara’s strength of character to achieve results at a track session for herself and for the people she was helping. Shots taken represented the realities of training in the heat of the day, when the track was dry, skatey, when bike settings needed to be adjusted – tested and changed – when rest was not an option as time dictated the schedule to fit everything in – including interviews – before heading back to Parma at 15.30.

The interviews were carefully conducted with questions relating to Kiara’s success winning WMX Round 2 in Spain and Round 3 in Germany, followed by her thoughts on training and racing only 6 Rounds in a World Championship. The obvious point of conjecture was the big gap of 12 weeks between Germany and Round 4 in Arnhem, Netherlands, and the swirling issue of financing the cost of racing the Final Round in Darwin, Australia.

Kiara shared her thoughts on the above, as seen in the films, with confidence that her experience racing WMX for 14 years and winning 6 Titles had not been matched by any other rider in the history of the sport. Kiara emphasized the importance of gaining as much Media coverage pre-during and post racing as with only 6/7 Rounds per season – promotion of rider and corresponding Brand and sponsors were vital for securing ongoing financial support.

Heading back home to pick up the girls, Kiara’s focus switched to family – being with her daughters and seeing her parents who were preparing a pizza evening for friends. Partner Devi arrived, and brother Lucca, and it was quite an after thought while I was looking for her medals received – Collare d’Oro – that Kiara said “Sharon you haven’t seen downstairs”. In my last visit in 2017, I saw Kiara’s winning bike on display, and the Golden Collar medals – but not the surprise of what came next.

As the door opened, the sight was amazing, a wonderful display of Kiara’s winning bikes, trophies, medals, photographs, helmets, collector shirts and all in between representing her career racing WMX. Taking photos was a must to add depth to the story. Yet, the viewing was short lived – Kiara and family were ready to unwind together, at the pool, in the garden, stoking the pizza oven for the evening meal. A fitting end to the day, on what Kiara cherishes the most.
