MXLink Live invites guests Camelia Liparoti and Annett Fischer to share their thoughts and experiences racing 2020 Dakar Rally in SSV category across terrains of Saudia Arabia.
Camelia Liparoti entered her 11th Dakar Rally with status of ‘Dakar Legend’ having completed 10 back-to-back Dakars. A rare feat in itself, not only given the tough physical, mental and technical abilities each competitor needs to possess, but also the over-arching challenge of gaining financial support for racing Dakar over consecutive number of years.
Annett Fischer has gained wealth of race experience over past decade, not just racing off-road Rally events but also putting her practice as physiotherpist to use with riders during FIA World Cup races. Annett welcomed the call to take up role as co-driver with Camelia, having tasted Dakar experience competing in SSV class previous year.
Proving that only female duo in SSV class has the nous to compete on level playing field against seasoned male competitors, Camelia and Annett faced significant hurdles to make it to the finish.
Both women were undeterred to race and navigate the unknown terrain of Saudi’s desert, both were confident in their ability to sustain mental and physical endurance racing 12 Stages, and both carried the conviction that challenge and passion go hand-in-hand when tackling such a grueling event.
However, mechanical difficulties were hard to fix, hard to find solutions which would enable the pair to complete Stages, though not all was lost. Taking Dakar Rally ‘Wild Card’ Camelia and Annett completed Dakar 2020 under ‘Dakar Experience’ category. It was a great ending to an extraordinary experience.
MXLink Live broadcast will steer conversation around what the experience was like for Camelia and Annett, what was most rewarding and what was most challenging. And, would the 2 brave, courageous Women do it all again?
MXLink Live Streams on Friday, April 24th at 7.00am local time.
