NZ’s Darryll King made special place in NZ’s Motocross history to take on FIM Vets MX World Cup at MXGP Assen this weekend finishing 2nd on podium.
Nailing 2nd in Race 1, Darryll went into Race 2 with all the mental preparation, technical expertise and physical fitness he could muster to produce a performance most MX riders half his age would struggle at on the choppy, tough sand track built by NZ’s Greg Atkins.
It came down to the last lap, last corner where points leader Mats Nilsson went down ahead of King, Darryll passed but the points difference was not enough to claim the Overall win.
As close as you get to victory by one point Darryll says:
‘It was a fantastic experience to come over and be a part of GP at Assen TT Circuit. I’m glad I made the effort to come over and race in Vets MX World Cup and am totally pumped with 2nd on one of the most difficult, challenging sand tracks I have ridden in my life’.
‘Glad to be going home in one piece’.
