WMX Round 5 at MXGP of Turkey this weekend – preview. Heading into the penultimate Round of Women’s Motocross World Championship current points leader – Lotte van Drunen – will have eyes fixed on consolidating her 180 points over Italian WMX Champion 6x – Kiara Fontanesi – standing in P2 on 160 points. Spanish rider – Daniela Guillen will be equally determined to maximize the momentum gained after taking Race 2 win at Arnhem, rounding out the top 3 on 159 points.

In what has been a royal battle for top step of the podium with defending Champion – Van Drunen winning Round 1 in Sardegna and Round 4 at Arnhem, and Fontanesi taking back-to-back GP wins in Spain and Germany – the hard pack track at Afyonkarahisar will test all rider’s starting from Qualifying on Saturday to Race 1 in the afternoon and Race 2 on Sunday morning.

Having hosted WMX Championship for the past 4 seasons as the final Round, this weekend will test rider’s ability to switch from racing on sand at Round 4 in Arnhem, to the ripped track in Turkey, knowing the ultimate result will be decided at Round 6 in Darwin on September 21. Undoubtedly, pressure to produce the best possible performance from gate-drop to the chequered flag will determine who gains additional leverage for the fight for the coveted WMX Title 2025.

With today’s temperature of 32 degrees and a potential thunderstorm for racing tomorrow – the unpredictable nature of WMX raises the game on who will get the hole-shot, gain a gap on the field, and hold position for the entirety of 25 minutes. 2024 winner – Daniela Guillen can take comfort of going 2-1 last season with Fontanesi taking P3 with 3-3 result. The unfortunate absence of NZ’s Courtney Duncan from the 2025 season along with Lynn Valk – who sustained a leg injury at Arnhem – adds further dimension for rider’s – Shana van der Vlist, Amandine Verstappen, Larissa Papenmeier, and Danee Gelissen to test their ability against the top 3.

With so much at stake, racing will be down to strength of resolve to push for the win. Let’s see who comes out on top.
