Tatiana Calderon gains seat with F2 Charouz Racing System for final 4 Rounds heading into F1 Belgium Grand Prix at Spa Francorchamps this weekend. Replacing the Team’s outgoing driver, Tatiana takes up the mantle to compete in Formula 2 Championship, which she achieved as first and only female to do so in 2019.
From completing full season racing ‘019 F2 under BWT Arden, Tatiana has clocked up mammoth load of race experience in both America and Europe across single-seater Championships, endurance and IndyCar Series along with test driver for Alfa Romeo Formula One Team from 2018 to 2021.
Milestone achievements have been finishing on the podium in the British Formula 3 International Series, a first for women, along with competing in 24 Hours of Le Mans-LMP2 with Richard Mille Racing Team, finishing 13th overall. Throw in racing 2019-2020 F3 Asian Championship, 2020 Super Formula Championship, 2020 European Le Mans, 2021 FIA World Endurance Championship – LMP2 and 2022 IndyCar Series, Tatiana has proven record of perfecting various aspects of race-craft behind the wheel.
Taking into account previous decisions to fulfill racing career, data clocked up competing in 2019 F2 Championship gives indication on what Tatiana will deliver on track over up-coming Rounds at Spa, Zandvoort, Monza, and the final round at Yas Island on November 18-20.
Performance on track peaked over 2019 F2 Rounds at Barcelona GP at Catalunya, France GP at Le Castellet, and Spielberg GP at Red Bull Ring. Qualifying P18 at F1 Grand Prix of Spain, Tatiana finished Sprint Race in P13, mere 1.3 seconds behind Mick Schumacher. 2021 F1 driver Nikita Mazepin finished P14, 2.792 seconds behind Tatiana. Repeating performance in Feature Race, Tatiana completed the 37 laps in 1.01.56.477 finishing in P13 ahead of current F1 driver Mick Schumacher who crossed the chequered flag in 1.02.22.682 in P15.
Tatiana delivered P11 result in Feature Race at F1 Grand Prix of France at Circuit Paul Ricard confirming that her race pace was within top 10 finishers with winner Nyck de Vries completing the 30 laps in 1.15.35.425 and Tataina finishing in 1.16.44,796.
Qualifying back of grid in P20 at 2019 F2 Round at Spielberg Grand Prix proved no deterrent for Tatiana to fight for better positions in both Sprint and Feature races. And the Columbian born driver did not disappoint. Securing P13 in the 28 lap Sprint Race, Tatiana posted time of 39.06.827, mere 2 positions behind Schumacher on P11 finishing in 39.03.981.
If seats to race F4/F3/F2 Championships for women are hard, near impossible to come by, Tatiana proves valuable contender to break the barriers. Yes, results will count, but going on past data, experience, and strength of resolve to race, Tatiana will re-write next chapter of Women competing in Formula racing for the future.
