If ever there was a glimpse into how hard Women’s World Motocross Championship is, it was today at Round 3 of WMX Series at Ernee, France.

NZ’s Courtney Duncan set a blistering pace out front in the early laps, only to succumb to the demanding track conditions, crashing and then having to gain ground lost on leading Dutch star Nancy Van de Ven.

Coming into the steep down-hill section, Duncan pushed hard to pass, catching herself out of shape and crashed hard which resulted in recovery track-side.

Leaving the challenge open, Italian and 4 x World Women’s MX Champion Kiara Fontanesi took hold of the advantage passing Van de Ven, and then herself lost traction and crashed on the steep up-hill of the French circuit.

From mid-pack, home Motocross queen Livia Lancelot had edged through the WMX field upping the ante on Van de Ven’s lead and with full roar of Livia’s home country fans cheering on the banks, Lancelot secured the WMX Race 1 victory in amazing style.

Full credit goes to these top Women of the world, racing GP tracks with the same determination, fight, grit and courage that their male counterparts show.
