Woodville Grand Prix 2015 stands out as the only event in the year where Amateur and Pro riders compete on a track prepared solely for Manawatu Orion Motorcycle club’s annual event.
Celebrating 54 years hosting NZ’s only Motocross Grand Prix, MOMCC remain committed to providing riders, MX fans, spectators and sponsors an opportunity to enjoy racing at its highest level.
Preparations kick off this weekend with grass cutting, prep of track layout, ripping, watering, power harrowing, re-building jumps, raising track sections and repeat until the annual event begins on January 24th– 25th.
With sponsors locked in as soon as 2014 Woodville GP is finished, MOMCC members begin organising the $90K funded event keeping rider feedback and sponsor requirements top of the list to attract MX fans and spectators from around NZ and offshore.
Club President Wade Wilson comments: ‘The biggest buzz for me and the club is to have riders say Woodville GP is one of the best events they have ever been to’.
For that to happen ‘I along with the club listen to rider feedback and with the help of Ben Townley last year we were able to make changes to the track making it more technical for Pro riders while at the same time catering for various levels of rider ability’.
‘This year track layout will be the same as 2014,, Race Format for Senior MX1 and MX2: 2 x 20 minute motos with the International Race at the end of the day’.
‘There will be the highlight River Race and a one off GP race for 65cc class on Sunday’.
Wade concludes: ‘With 13 years involvement in organising Woodville GP, it is always a special event on the sports calendar which provides exciting racing at a venue set-up once a year for everyone to enjoy’.
