NZ’s Josiah Natzke made his mark on the European Motocross Championship Series going 7th Race 1 and taking the win in Race 2 to finish 2nd Overall on the podium.
What was a heartbreak incidence in Race 1, Josiah had a sizable lead when misfortune struck as he slid wide off the track then recovered to finish 7th.
All out for redemption in Race 2, Natzke regained composure and took the win to finish 2nd on the podium in Round 4 of EMX 125cc.
With lap times equalling EMX 250cc class Natzke remains on point for next weekend’s Round at Villars sous Ecot in France, with focus on achieving what he wants.
I caught up with # 33 Q and A:
Q: Round 4 at Matterley Basin proved a turning point so to speak- it was a rough Race 1 and you came out shining in Race 2- How did you re-focus come Sunday?
Josiah: ‘I just had a bad race. I know I sucked in Race 1 and I am way better than that so I just put it behind me and focused on the next one’.
Q: Matterley Basin had big jumps, dirt looked bit loose- tell us what you thought of the track?
Josiah: ‘The track was pretty sick and yea the jumps were huge. Some of them I had the 125 singing to hit them, don’t get any jumps like that in NZ. It was pretty much the same dirt as Woodville really, that really natural terrain stuff’.
Q: There certainly are some hard challenges to face with such top competition, not to mention your Team-mates who are right up there- is this pushing you to achieve what you want to?
Josiah: ‘There’s a lot pushing me to achieve what I really want. But both my Team-mates and the rest of the field are super-fast dudes and it keeps me on my toes for sure’.
Q: Qualifying- what adjustments have you made?
Josiah: ‘I’ve been trying to get a tow off my Team-mates’!
Q: To have NZ’s Chris Ritchie capture your experience with Stefan Everts and KTM Factory Junior Team on film is awesome- how is the working relationship with Stefan developing?
Josiah: It’s going well. I think when I first got here we were just getting the feelers out and seeing how we both operate, but it’s going really well now that we understand each other. I enjoy working with him’.
Q: France this weekend- what are you looking forward to?
Josiah: ‘A new track. I really like going to all these new tracks’.
Josiah Natzke (KTM Factory Junior Team) stands 3rd Overall in the EMX Championship points table.
