How to tell a film story in 30 seconds. The question prompts examination on what tools are used to create a visual story which informs and inspires viewer’s to watch, react, and share to an audience world-wide. Key factors on producing a successful edit are based on latest data and statistics on watch-time, following, and reactions enabling a continual assessment on what appeals and what does not.

Starting with MXLink’s latest film story on Cole Davies journey – racing to win. The main focus of the story was to share Cole’s journey from riding at home in NZ to racing America’s premier Supercross 250 West Championship – and winning. Within this context, visuals were selected to show the stages and steps Cole has gone through over a period of time while also highlighting the fact that growing up watching SX in the States to actually competing – takes hard work, sacrifice, and committment to bring it all to fruition.
Early photos and edits of Cole riding his 65cc give viewer’s a glimpse on how the journey has evolved. Cole’s precision at railing ruts, body position, line choice, and sheer enthusiasm to ride any surface or track speaks volumes on what has been the main source of personal drive to fulfill his ambitions. From 2018 to 2021, the shift to riding his 85cc followed by 125cc opened opportunities to test his ability against his peers – racing double classes in NZ Junior MX Nationals – winning 12 – 13 85cc and taking second in 12 – 14 125cc class.

Despite the extreme financial challenges for Cole to gain race experience overseas, along with the fact that America’s up-coming talent have ample supply of training camps to ramp up levels of improvement – Cole and his family enlisted the help, guidance, and mentorship of NZ’s only AMA 250SX East Champion – Ben Townley – to take the next step forward in his racing career. Practice and training sessions with BT, supported by Josh Coppins Altherm Yamaha Team was the next link in the chain to perfect technique prior to racing overseas.
As photos and edits from 2022 to 2023 show, Cole’s aptitude on the bike developed in scope and scale with his first taste of victory in Australia’s SX3 opening Round in 2023. Bouyed by the fact that hard work brings rewards – not only for Cole but for all supportive network of people – the push to race in America had begun – competing in Loretta Lynn’s and Supercross Futures in 2024.

As the story-line unfolds through clips of Cole putting in the mahi and reaping the rewards, the 17 year old pays homage to how far he has come, taking back-to-back wins in 2025 250SX West Championship Rounds 7 and 8 at Seattle and Philadelphia. Currently standing P2 overall, 17 points behind P1, the final 2 Rounds may well cap off an exciting chapter of Cole’s journey – before the next chapter arrives.
250SX West Round 9 Denver, May 4 and Round 10 at Salt Lake City on May 11.
