Damon Rees achieved great sense of satisfaction racing 2020 Bennetts British SBK Championship having gained 2 podiums, 4 top 5 finishes and front row grid in rookie season. With huge learning curves taken on board from Day 1 arriving in UK, Damon has sent strong, clear message to all that #92 is real contender for Championship wins in near future.
Emphasizing fact was strong performance in Opening Round at Donington Park which gave Rees first ever Overall podium, followed by embracing learning new tracks at Snetterton, Silverstone and Oulton Park.
Backed fully by Astro JJR Racing Team, Damon proved he is no push-over even when odds seem stacked against seasoned British riders, pulling edge over competition with another strong finish at Round 3, Silverstone.
Wrapping up season with unfortunate injury to shoulder at Round 5, Donington Park, Damon stands proud for cementing place in such highly regarded SBK Championship in the world racing the most iconic circuits that many only dream of.
Damon: ‘The biggest highlight for me was definitely my two podiums at Donington for Round 1… it really cemented why I’m here racing – Podiums are always the best feeling! The biggest challenge has to be racing at tracks you barely know… it makes a race weekend very busy, but it’s what I signed up to when I chose to race here so I can’t complain!
‘I’m really looking forward to next season as I’ve got my rookie season out of the way, and now I can focus on being the best rider possible and I would have raced at most of the tracks to it removes the “unknown” element’.
Switching focus to how much this year has impacted Damon’s out-look on pursuing racing career overseas, there is no doubt in Damo’s mind that move has been best decision ever. Not only being able to rise to all challenges on and off track, but also embrace whole different way of living geared to fully prepare for racing.
With partner Taila by Damon’s side, one super-special lady, 2021 beckons on great happenings for #92, family, friends and those close by.
