Dakar Rally 2020 Women Competitors Media coverage brought to you by:
Dakar Rally has 2 heroines of Sara Garcia and Fernanda Kanno racing Original by Motul and Car category.
Both Women have proved strength of character to race under extreme conditions with Sara putting in another days work after each Stage to work and prepare her bike for the next day and Fernanda for having ‘seriously no quitting power’ even when faced with spending the night in the desert waiting for light in the morning to fix their car.
Sara has broken precedent whereby #98 was forced to abandon 2019 Dakar Rally due to mechanical issue having already completed first half of 2020 Dakar and by all accounts looks set to reach Final Stage 12 finish line in 5 days time.
Sara: ‘Today finally resting although in Original we have not stopped taking advantage to re- tighten everything, solve the issue of the screw & check the complete motorcycle π¨ The admission area had to be cleaned up well so we already have everything ready for tomorrow’s stage which is going to be quite hard. π΄Time to go to bed & replenish everything we can expect a good oneπͺ πͺ
It is hard to do justice to Fernanda’s courage, spirit to endure and fight to win the battle of racing Dakar to the final Stage. Having made solid progress in Stages 1-5, the Peruvian pair with Alonso Carillo as co-driver struck trouble nearer to end of Stage 6.
What unfolded is truely remarkable and re-told in Fernanda’s words:
Fernanda: We are already in the middle of @dakarrally ππ yesterday was an endless day, we left happily because the dunes began …. We had a lot of fun during the day and at 7 p.m. a night climb brought us problems with the box π , as it was very late and the box is very heavy we could not repair anything without light, so we decided to sleep in the desert until it gets dark ππ
‘We were prepared for something like this to happen, so we took our sleepings @seatosummitperu (which they warm up to temperatures below zero π) and we rest under the beautiful moon of #ArabiaSaudia. Already in the morning calmly, we fix the problem and we finished the 100 kms of race that we needed..’
‘Nothing stopped us, except a camellito that crossed us in the race line πͺπͺπͺ In the end we arrived today at the camp at 4 in the afternoon, more than 24 hour after having left the day before. And on arrival at the camp we were met by Mauro, our Argentine friend who runs with #SebastianGiayasamin … He welcomed us happily, as we all received at the Dakar Rally, happy to be one more day in β€οΈ career Thanks to all who have been concerned for us πͺπͺπͺ
With never-ending passion, desire and self-belief to conquer above all odds, both Women Sara and Fernanda pave way for inspiring other Women to pursue their sporting career no matter what obstacles get in the way.
