NZ’s # 1 Cody Cooper heads into the second half of 2015 Australia MX Nationals this weekend with a boost of confidence taking MX1 2-1 win at the recent Taupo MCC annual MXoN fundraiser last weekend.
Cooper no stranger to the highs, lows, rewards and challenges of the sport has used the 5 week gap between Rounds 5 and 6 as a chance to ‘have a break and re-set’.
With 2015 Australia MX National classes loaded with talent, Cooper reflects on what it’s been like so far, and what is to look forward to.SC: Going 2-1 at Taupo MCC ‘Battle of the Clubs’ recently- was the result timely for you?
Coops: ‘Yea, I always enjoy that event. I got awesome starts all day too’.
SC: With 5 week break from Australia MX Nationals and Round 6 this weekend what has been your focus between the first and second half of the Series?
Coops: ‘The 5 week break has come at a good time for me as I got injured before Round 4. I felt like I lost a lot of bike fitness so these 5 weeks have been good to get back up there’.
SC: With MX1 competition in top form, Super-Pole adding extra points- what have been the highlights and challenges so far up to Round 6 this weekend?
Coops: ‘Yes the guys are all riding well. Super-Pole hasn’t gone too well for me. But my starts have been good. To be honest the first half of the Season has been horrible for me. So it has been good to have the break and re-set’.
SC: There are 2 new, hard-pack tracks coming up, plus Coolum- what are the differences racing Australia’s MX National tracks compared to NZ’s?
Coops: ‘Yea I haven’t been to the 2 new tracks so I’m looking forward to that. And I like all the other 3. I have found the tracks are faster than our NZ tracks’.
SC: Heads up to MXoN at Ernee, France in September- you have said representing NZ at this inaugural event is pretty special- your thoughts on the opportunity to race MXoN in France later this year?
Coops: ‘If I am 1 of 3 riders picked I’ll be happy as. The track at Ernee is awesome. I’ve raced there before and I really liked it’.
