NZ’s Courtney Duncan finished Timed Practice 4th in World Women’s Motocross Championships at Qatar today. Team Suzuki World MXGP Ben Townley finished 14th in Timed Practice followed by 17th in MXGP- Qualifying Race to round off day one.
Duncan (Yamaha) proved she is a hot Title contender posting the fastest lap time in free practice going 1.52.326 in front of 2015 WMX winner Kiara Fontanesi (Honda) 1.52.484 and Livia Lancelot (Kawasaki) 1.52.771.
Showing remarkable strength of character with 15 minutes practice early this morning to test run the Yamaha 250F in for the first time, Courtney rode consistent lap times, testing lines, jumps and dialling in on the well ripped start straight.
Team Suzuki World MXGP Ben Townley looked set to test the rigors of racing MXGP, sitting 10th in Qualifying Race before settling for 17th position at time of chequered flag.
It was a milestone for Duncan, competing in her first World Women’s Motocross Championship, supporting predictions that the 20 year old NZ’der has the makings of top podium spot.
Racing on a carefully designed, built and prep’d track by NZ’s Greg Atkins, the Opening Round of 2016 MXGP at Qatar is proving to be a Kiwi entity with NZ’s best riders competing plus MXGP’s Nikki Scott reporting, Chris Ritchie photos and Grant Townley support.
