Amandine Verstappen turned passion into results at WMX Round 3 at MXGP of Loket last weekend, leaving unfortunate crash in Race 1 well and truely in memory bank to pull off 3rd in Race 2 finishing the day 4th Overall.
Coming off the back of winning 2019 French Women’s MX Championship with Round to spare, Amandine had set sights firmly on racing up-front for podium result. Eager to carry momentum through from Timed Practice, Verstappen clocked 3rd fastest lap securing good gate-pick going into R1.
#274: ‘I was feeling good on the track and had good memories of racing at Loket. I managed 3rd place in timed practice which was good’.
‘In first Race I had a bad start and I had to work my way back up to P3. But 5 mins before the end I had a bad crash on the double jump which cost me a lot of time and a lot of places so I finished P8’.
With Verstappen hitting peak at winning WMX Opening Round at Valkenswaard in May, the Yamaha rider has made most of long gaps between Rounds racing French Women MX Championship Series. With Title firmly in hands, Verstappen has made mission to transfer success to WMX Rounds finishing WMX Round 2 at Agueda 8th Overall to forward movement up the points table – 4th Overall after WMX Round 3.
#274: ‘For the second race I knew I had the speed to be in Top 3 because in first race I had 2nd best lap time behind Duncan. So I was confident. Yet, again I had a bad start but worked my way up and finished P3. 8+3=4th Overall’.
‘I’m a bit sad to crash in first race maybe that cost me a podium! 5 GP’s for us- it’s not enough so it’s good training to race in Women French Championship’.
And goals for final 2 WMX Rounds: ‘Yes 2 Rounds to go- my goals are still to be on the podium’.
