Cole Davies takes impressive win at AMA 250SX East Championship at Detroit extending his Championship lead by 9 points. The Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing rider not only pulled off an amazing victory margin of 12.196 seconds over second placed rider – Seth Hammaker – but also dominated sector times in 1, 2, 3, and 9 in the Main.

For certain, Davies powered through the pack after starting 15th at the hole-shot, to 3rd by Lap 4, 2nd by Lap 5, then made a nice pass on Hammaker to take 1st by Lap 11 which carried the kiwi to the chequered flag. Analyzing sector times reveals where #37 made up time even when the track was breaking down, especially in the whoops. By Lap 8, Davies in 2nd and Hammaker in 1st had stretched a gap from 3rd placed Jo Shimoda with both setting their best sector times in the 18 Lap Main.
Most significantly was Cole’s ability to apply pressure on Hammaker shaving off time in sector 2: 6.522 to Seth’s 6.922, sector 3: 5.926 to 6.080, sector 4: 4.956 to 5.037, sector 6: 6.707 to 6.997, and sector 7: 5.687 to 5.774. All of which asks the question: which fuels the push for the win more – coming from behind and making passes stick or racing out front relying on the pit board to gauge who is getting closer?

With AMA 250SX West and East Red Plate Holder’s – Haiden Deegan and Cole Davies – producing impressive results this season, there are stand-out characteristics in both rider’s which elevate their racing entirely. Haiden’s dog-fight nature, skill in manoeuvering the bike regardless of obstacles, coupled with undeniable will to win ranks him top in 250SX West division. Cole Davies ultimate focus on winning the Championship no matter how starts go, or what challenges arise on the track along with indescribable ability to increase his speed on a breaking down track has to be a rare phenomenon indeed. All of which makes for a thrilling watch next weekend in AMA 250SX E/W Showdown at St Louis.
