Avalon Lewis produced an impressive performance at World WCR Opening Round in Assen at the weekend, taking P4 in Superpole and Race 1. Having kept pace with the leading three rider’s up to the final lap in Race 2, Avalon lost 4th position, sliding to the side of the track mere metres from the finish line.

For the recently crowned NZ Pro Twin Champion 2025, the results proved that Avalon’s ability, race-craft, and skills to run with the leading women rider’s was nothing short of remarkable, given the logistical challenge of gaining track and race-time in NZ’s short season along with becoming a first-time mum to son – Nash.

Most certainly, the Carl Cox Motorsports rider provides bucket loads of inspiration to younger generations of women who aspire to race and continue their careers as a mother. As records state, it is now10 years since Avalon gained victory winning the European Junior Cup in 2015 and 2016, followed by the mammoth milestone of becoming the first female to win NZ Supersport 600 Title in 2019.

Such drive and determination to race year-in-year-out has been Avalon’s trademark throughout her career. Neither deterred nor overwhelmed by the never-ending task of raising funds to race, Avalon put heart and soul into financing competing in World WCR Round 4 at Cremona in 2024, finishing P8 and P7 in Race 1 and Race 2. Such results, not only prompted a greater desire to race a full-season in 2025, but also sent a clear massage that Lewis had the mental fortitude to pursue her passion with vengeance.

Clocking a best lap time of 1’49.315 with a gap of 1.169 to the lead rider’s best lap time at Assen on the weekend, Avalon has time to re-set and focus on Round 2 at Cremona on May 2 – 4. Given the kiwi’s love of a challenge, undoubtedly the next time on track will be worthy of watching from NZ and abroad.
