Liam Lawson gained 3rd in R1 followed by 5th in R2 at Formula 3 Championship Round 5 held for second week in a row at Silverstone, UK. Having sealed 2nd in Qualifying, Lawson kept himself true to goals, inching closer up the Championship points table standing 4th Overall.
Making smart decisions on track, Liam shows race-craft beyond his acquired racing single-seater years, more due to character strength racing under Hi-Tech/Red Bull Junior Team, than random lucky breaks.
Liam: ‘”It was another good weekend, we had strong Quali. In Race 1 we had a clutch issue off the start which I think cost us a chance at the win. Still, it was a good race and good points.
Towards the end I was starting to struggle. I had used everything up trying to catch Jake (Hughes) and I didn’t have enough to attack at the end.
Today the main thing was the main Championship guys finished behind me so I am making up points on the 2 leaders”‘. Reference Red Bull Junior Team.
With changing weather conditions from hot on Saturday to cooler track temperatures on Sunday, the competitive field has seen 8 different winners from 10 races, making the fight for the F3 Championship Title no fore-gone conclusion. Lawson made sure of that- fending off 2nd placed Oscar Piastri who battled #5 for fifth only to run wide and drop down to 8th.
Liam: ‘”Today Race 2 was good, but then it was disappointing to lose a position by 1/100th to Beckman, but it is what it is.
It’s a bit crazy to be honest, you are trying to race someone (Theo Pourchaire) and overtake because you are faster, and you end up in positions where you either back out and get points or stick to your line and have a crash which is his fault. So, we took the points today”‘. Reference Red Bull Junior Team.
Round 6 of 9 takes place at Barcelona, Spain, next weekend, August 14-16th.
